Types of Adoption

A private adoption is that which is arranged without the assistance of an agency. This is extremely risky as legal matters can be overlooked. Most of the adoption horror stories you hear are caused by private adoptions.

An agency child adoption, on the other hand, involves the assistance of a licensed agency. Though it also cannot assure you of 100 % adoption success, you can rest with the thought that there are people who are working with you in the processing of legal documents and other procedures. Should there be any complications in the process, there are qualified people to assist you in dealing with these difficulties.

Open Adoption
Open adoption is an adoption option that allows for an ongoing relationship among the birth family, adoptive family, and the adopted child. Fully open adoptions often include extended family members such as birth grandparents and siblings.

Semi-Open Adoption
Semi-open adoption is an adoption in which you and your child’s pre-adoptive parents may exchange non-identifying information. After the child is placed in the adoptive home, you can keep in touch with the adoptive family through letters, pictures or other communications sent through Adoption Services Worldwide.

Closed Adoption
In a closed adoption, you and the adoptive parents will not meet, do not plan to have any contact after the child is placed, and will not share any identifying information. Every state has different laws about the release of identifying information. Adoption Services Worldwide will act as the intermediary between the two parties.

Intrastate and Interstate Adoptions
In an intrastate adoption, the adoptive parents, and the birthparents live within the same state. Thus, the adoption laws that govern the procedure are that of one state only.

An interstate adoption happens when the adoptive parents live in a state other than that where the child was born. The adoption process in this case must comply with the adoption laws of the two different states.

International Adoption
International adoptions involve the adoption of a child who is a citizen of a foreign country. Though this type of adoption may allow you to enjoy the happiness of being a real parent, it is more complicated in a sense that it must comply with the adoption laws of the state, the US Government, that of the foreign government, and the Hague Convention as well. This may involve a longer time span for processing compared to other adoption types, as well as extensive expenditures.

Take some time and choose whatever type of adoption you are comfortable with. Feel free to contact us should you have further questions regarding these matters. Adoption Services Worldwide is more than willing to assist you in building your dreams of a happy family.
