Adoption Requeirements

Those who are interested in applying for an adoption through Adoption Services Worldwide may request for and complete a Preliminary Inquiry or an Application. We are required by Licensing Standards to assess the eligibility of every applicant. Using a criterion designed to evaluate the potential success of an adoption, we evaluate your qualifications, parenting skills, and resources. Certain procedures for the selection of adoptive parents are then followed.

All the items listed below must be completed, verified, and recorded before we place a child under your custody:

  • Completion of Home Study and approved by the Director of Placement.
  • 25 to 50 years of age as supported by
    • birth certificate.
  • Never been married OR legally married for 3 years OR legally divorced OR lived together 3 years before marriage supported by
    • Marriage certificate OR
    • Entire divorce decree.
  • Free of communicable disease, good physical, mental and emotional health, normal life expectancy and emotional stability for each applicant, child or any other person in the household supported by
    • Physician's statement.
  • Information about each member of the household supported by
    • Medical information
    • Birth certificate
    • Adoption decrees (if applicable)
  • Sufficient financial resources to meet the adoptee's needs supported by
    • Income tax returns for the last 2 years.
    • Written statement of job status, length of service, and annual salary from employer.
    • Written summary of health and life insurance.
  • Health insurance coverage for the adoptee supported by
    • Current policy OR
    • Notarized letter from insurance company.
  • Clearance from criminal history and child abuse verified by
    • State of residence
    • Fingerprints (for out of state applicants)
  • Living arrangements conducive to the adoptee's safety and wellbeing verified by
    • Inspection of the applicant's residence by an Agency Staff or Representative
  • Motivation to adopt verified by
    • Letter to Birth Mother
    • Photo album
    • De-identified Adoptive Parent Profile
  • Conformity to placement terms supported by
    • Receipt of Placement Agreement
    • Corporal Punishment Agreement
  • Conformity to Financial Agreement supported by
    • Signed acceptance of Financial Agreement
  • Stable relationship with spouse, children and family supported by
    • 3 references from friends or professionals in the community
