Adoption Home Study

A Home Study is one of the most important steps required in the adoption process be it public, private, interstate, or international adoptions. You can think of it as a background check we conduct to assess your potential as adoptive parents. It will help us determine whether or not you are truly capable of providing the child not only with his material necessities, but his emotional needs as well. One of the goals of this program is to help you prepare for the adoption. The Home study will not only assist us in choosing a child who can easily adapt your family, but it will also help you come up with the final decision whether to pursue with the adoption or not.

We will get in touch with you through a number of visits and interviews during the Home Study period. Personal aspects of your life such as living conditions, financial capacity, childhood background, relationships, marriage, religious affiliation, and your reasons for adopting may have to be evaluated. We will also discuss with you concerns such as what to expect and how to care for an adopted child.

The Home Study entails preparations for both parties to make. It is our responsibility to conduct home inspections, interviews, and to help you understand better the issues that go with adoption. On your part, you have to prepare the required documents such as financial statements, autobiographies, criminal background checks, and character references. Additional information may be required depending on your state of residence.

The duration of the Home Study varies from one case to another. In most situations the speed of the Home Study relies on how fast the adoptive family completes the supporting documents. In this regard, we advise you to start compiling the required documents that we may start your Home Study as soon as you wish.
